So $10,000 for a board that requires a special metal surface to ride on and 7 mins of battery life...

Yep. Glad to see someone else is on board, on board, see what I did there, with these being totally worth it. Go hoverboards! I can totally see our roads going from concrete to metal soon.

From some recent articles I've read, that might be something we look into doing anyway. Interesting research being done by Toyota in conjunction with some university in Japan (Tokyo maybe? I don't remember!). All I really remember is powering vehicles through metal rails like high speed trains do for some cost efficient renewable energy.

Might make sense for super-dense areas like Tokyo, but the US and much of Europe just seems to have too much infrastructure across too large an area for that to seem feasible even in our lifetime. I'd place my bets on self-driving all-electric cars first, which seem to realistically be about 10 years out. The tech is mostly there already, but I'm guessing it'll be awhile before it gets widespread government clearance.
